Happy New Year!!
As the new year begins, it is time to look back at the 12 months that have passed and reflect on one's encounters, achievements and missed opportunities.
Converting my 10 year-old blog into a music blog in June proved to be a great decision for me. Even though my writing is not very polished and I often face difficulties finding adjectives other than "good" or "nice" to describe the music I like, I immensely enjoyed the process of writing about music. Within 6 months, my blog found 11 followers, which I interpreted as a sign that I am doing something good here.
So, similar to most other music blogs, here are my favourite songs of 2011, in no particular order of preference:
1. Super Bass - Nicky Minaj
One of the two songs on this list that I have never mentioned in the blog before, and apparently, the song became a big hit after Taylor Swift spontaneously performed the rap over a radio interview. This song is super catchy and super infectious. A star-making song for Nicky Minaj.
2. I Wanna Go - Britney Spears
3. Indestructible - Robyn
In order to qualify for the favourite of 2011, a song must be able to withstand repeated listening over several months. These 2 songs, discovered during the first half of the year, have been wonderful companions for the past months. I just do not get sick of them.
4. Love You Like A Love Song - Selena Gomez and The Scene
This is likely to be the only song here that is also on the list of favourite songs for many primary school kids. Even though not the big success I have predicted it to be, the song is still on Billboard Top 40 after half a year, proving that there is a lot of love out there for this song.
5. Papi/On The Floor - Jennifer Lopez
The 2 dance anthems become quite indistinguishable after awhile. Not that the songs sound alike, but the songs give me the same happy feeling and get me in the mood to exercise.
6. 仰望 - 杨丞琳
7. 那些年 - 胡夏
No favourite Chinese songs in 2010 but I started paying some attention to Chinese pop music again in 2011, where I bought Chinese music CDs and decided that 那些年,我們一起追的女孩 is my favourite movie of the year.
8. Titanium - David Guetta (Feat. Sia)
The other song which I have never talked about. I am not a fan of David Guetta but I do enjoy some of the music he makes, especially when it features singers with arresting voices. This song grabs me from the opening few bars and builds slowly to a "wave your hands in the air and jump up and down" climax. When the song ends, I just want to play it again.
