Ameizing World Tour: My Favourite Moments

It's my 2nd A-Mei concert in 3 years. The first one was her Star Tour in 2008. I caught it in Hong Kong where Jacky Cheung was the guest artiste and that was a hell of a concert. She was a natural performer who really knew how to work the crowd and her stamina and energy never slipped throughout the concert.

3 years on and its the Ameizing World Tour. The mood at the Indoor Stadium was simply, for the lack of a better word, amazing. Her showmanship and vocals were still top notched, and this time round, she even looked gorgeous (except one strange outfit that consisted of gigantic red ribbons).

One problem for A-Mei during tours is to decide which songs to sing, out of her 200 plus song catalogue. For this concert, she included a few songs that were more obscure and sang only snippets of the well-known songs. Being a fan of her ballads, notable omissions for me were 人质 and 我无所谓.

Still, AmeiZing was an exhilarating experience from start to finish. My 3 favourite moments were:

哭砂 - Veteran 黄莺莺, seated in the front row, was invited onto the stage and sang a duet with A-Mei, in a seemingly impromptu segment. It is probably a kiasu Singaporean thing but it was quite satisfying to hear A-Mei announce that this is the only concert in the entire series where a guest artiste went on stage to sing.

我最亲爱的 - My favourite song in the new album was the finale song of the 40 min ballad segment consisting of her most loved hits. A-mei made the audience repeat the chorus a couple of times at the end of the song, and the collective voices went louder and louder (partly thanks to me). That was the first high of the concert for me.

三天三夜 - The song is actually quite annoying on my iPod, but it explodes during concerts. This song was suitably chosen to be the final song of the encore and the crowd went wild, along with everyone on stage. I was up on my feet and jumping up and down like the hardcore fans in the front row. It ended the concert with a bang.

I have a feeling this will not be my last A-Mei concert..
