Similar to Don't Worry Be Happy, the best thing about Moves Like Jagger is the whistling. Without it, the song probably would not have stuck as much as it did. Though I agree with the masses that this is a irresistible pop song, I did not feel that Christina Aguilera's cameo added anything to the song. (The only thing it did was to prolong Christina's fading music career.) I also thought the reference to Jagger felt forced and be replaced with any other 2 syllabus word (e.g. Beggar, Lager, Maggot) or other famous character (e.g. Elvis, Barney, Garfield). Insert any word you like and it would not have made much difference.
Although whistling has probably been discovered for as long as singing has, there have not been many examples of whistling in pop songs in recent years, and here are my 3 favourite whistling songs:
Young Folks - Peter Bjorn and John

The pop song: The whistling is used as an instrument to repeat the catchy melody of the verses.
There It Goes (The Whistle Song) - Juelz Santana

The rap song: The whistling is the chorus and happens because the preceding line says "time to whistle at her".
Joyride - Roxette
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCorJG9mubk
The rock song: The whistling is sparingly used to link sections of the song and at the end, and happens because the line before it says "She got me whistling a private tune".
By the way, I do not know how to whistle.
